Announcing the Who@50 51st Anniversary Fanwork-a-thon!
Who@50

The 50th anniversary went so well, I thought we'd have another go. It's seven weeks from today to the day itself - the day the Doctor is fifty-one years young. Plenty of time, to my way of thinking, to get some fanworks going and post them to the comm. :)

That's right, it's the who_at_50 51st Anniversary Fanwork-a-thon, celebrating more than half a century of Doctor Who-related goodness. All - that is all - forms of fannish endeavour are welcome - fanfic, fanart, fanvids, fanmixes, icons, podfic, and absolutely any other medium in which you want to express your creativity and celebrate your love for that which is Who, probably including some I've never even heard of. Signups are open from today; posting of fanworks will commence from 1 November 2014 and continue throughout the month. Anything evoking the idea of the extraordinary longevity and diversity of Who would be especially welcome, but maybe the best way to do that is by creating the most typically Doctor Who-like Doctor Who fanwork you can?

If you're interested in taking part, please say so in the comments to this post to get added to the list of participants. It would be great if you could name a date in advance (list provided below) as it helps spread the contributions across more of the month, but it's not essential to do so.

Members who would have expressed interest in participating but would prefer not to be tied to a specific date include: clocketpatch, akashasheiress, wunnerwmn, nonelvis, monkiainen, meghanadxb, merryghoul, locker_monster, taiyou_to_tsuki, a_phoenixdragon, lost_spook

To try and reflect as broad a swathe of the many and different parts of Doctor Who as it has existed over the years, I'm also going to ask people to pick a category for their fanwork from the following list. The idea is to pick one that hasn't already been picked by somebody else, but it's not a deal-breaker - if you really really want to do one somebody else has already gone for, please let me know and, softhearted fool that I am, I will probably relent. Also if you can think of a category that I've missed which you'd like to use, that's fantastic too. :) If all of the categories are already taken when you sign up, then please feel free to choose whichever one you'd like.

First Doctor - juniperphoenix

Second Doctor - nonelvis

Third Doctor - taiyou_to_tsuki

Fourth Doctor

Fifth Doctor

Sixth Doctor - wunnerwmn

Seventh Doctor

Eighth Doctor - meghanadxb

Ninth Doctor

Tenth Doctor - monkiainen

Eleventh Doctor - merryghoul

Twelfth Doctor

Other Doctors

Multi-Doctor - clocketpatch

Companions - akashasheiress

Minor Characters - a_phoenixdragon

Torchwood - ghost2

Sarah Jane Adventures - paperclipbitch, locker_monster (because you can never have too much SJA fic!)

Audios

Comics

Novels - annariel

Doctor-non-specific - tangotabby

And I suppose we ought to go over what I laughingly refer to as the rules:

- Please feel free to post your fanworks directly to the community, or link to your own Livejournal/Dreamwidth account or any external archive or site you use for hosting your stuff.
- There are no minimum length requirements, but please put any large images or, in the case of fanfic, anything over 1000 words, under a cut or the other side of a link.
- There are no rating restrictions, but again please cut and provide warnings for anything over PG-13, or which might be considered triggering. Use your common sense.
- Character-bashing is in the eye of the beholder, but there are ways of critiquing or lampooning something you don't necessarily like about the show without resorting to straight-up hatchet-work that is going to cause angst on the comm. Common sense, again.
- Disclaimers may or may not actually work from a legal standpoint, but they help me sleep at night.
- Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

And that is all from me for the time being - over to you!

I'll sign up, but prefer not to be tied to a specific date. The project I'm thinking of is multi-Doctor.

Put me in the non-specific date group, please! Maybe I'll actually contribute a bit more this time. :)

Since multi-Doctor is taken, I think I'll do Companions. That way I don't have to be so specific and can include Doctors and villains and re-curring characters etc. ;)

Companions it is - it is a fairly broad category, so feel free to go crazy with it. :)

Helloooo...first time poster, often lurker here. :) I'm working on a small wallhanging that will represent my favorite (though often unappreciated) Six, if you'd like me to post that later on in November. I'm thinking that would spur me on to get it finished. Also may be working on something with Twelve afterwards.

Welcome aboard, then! I will put you down for Six and date unspecified as of right now, but if you think you might be able to post the Twelve thing during November as well, then let me know and I will stick that on the list as well. Thank you. :)

Put me down for Two, please; I've never really written him beyond a short drabble, but I'm working my way through his era right now, so I might as well try some fic! My dates are flexible right now, but I'd prefer not before the 15th if possible.

Okay, I'll put you down for date unspecified at the moment and you can post when you're ready. Looking forward to some Two fic - I don't think he's as hard to write as conventional wisdom has it, provided you've got the telly stories to refer to, but there's nothing like enough Two fic about if you ask me. :)

I missed out on taking part last year, so I'd like to join in this year! I'll take the Sarah Jane Adventures, please, and I'll take the 6th of November - I can hopefully finish a fic by then!

Welcome aboard - glad to have you taking part. And even more glad somebody wants to do something for SJA, which I love. :) I will add you to the list...!

I'll sign up, but I prefer not to be tied to a specific date. I'll do Ten.

Edited at 2014-10-06 08:33 am (UTC)

Excellent - I will add you to the list :)

I'd like to sign up but I don't want to commit to a specific date. I'm already working on a fic for Twelve but I'm not sure that I'll finish it in November. But I'd love to work on Eight and do something connected to the audio dramas :)

That's cool - I will put you down for Eight as that leaves the Audios category free if somebody else wants to do Gallifrey or something. And if you get the Twelve fic finished, please feel free to post that to the comm too if you'd like. :)

Not much creativity left here... I was hoping that my appreciation of the Twelfth Doctor might cause a bit of a creative explosion for me, as did my appreciation of the Seventh Doctor and Ace way back in the day, but, um, no. Even trying to draw Capaldi's eyes is presently confounding me... :-p

They are very distinctive eyes, to be sure. :) No worries - I know exactly what you mean about limited supplies of creativity, but if you end up unexpectedly gaining some bonus inspiration, you know where to come. ;)

I would like to participate. I have an idea for a fic that has Twelve in it, but it's more a Sarah Jane Adventures fic and that category is already gone. I really don't want to claim the Twelfth Doctor, though, if he's barely in the story. Maybe there could be a crossover category? Or more than one story for the SJA category would be okay?

On the basis that there can never be enough SJA fic in the universe (no really, it's a scientific fact), and in my capacity as sole umpire/adjudicator/what-have-you of this fanwork-a-thon, I'm issuing a special ruling, and that ruling is - go for it! I will put you down in the SJA category and no date specified (as you haven't) and I look forward greatly to whatever you come up with. :)

I just moved and I'm going to be pretty busy throughout all of october so I'm not sure when I'll be able to post, but I'd love to do something Third Doctor-related!

Hmmmm...I could likely do Minor Characters. Do love an outsider POV...

*HUGS*

On the list you go. :) I will put you down for no specified date.

I'm not sure about doing something for November, but I was planning on maybe doing two more rec sets (one for Six, one for Seven) & I could try and get those done to sort of unofficially take part in it? I wouldn't want to claim anything, because who'd want to get in the way of actual new fanworks for those two eras?

But if you think that would be okay, I could try and post on otherwise empty days & add to the fun?

If you wanted to do that, it would be very much appreciated. I obviously want to get as many things posted as possible during November, but rec sets as well as being cool things in themselves would provide a bit of variety too. So yeah, go for it, and post them whenever seems right to you. I'm sure you will find a suitable gap at some point. :)

I can post in a number of these categories, but I'll pick Torchwood officially.

Since I have actually finished knitting my Torchwood scarf (as I type, it's stretched across my room to lengthen it a bit) and just have to add a few touches (mainly fringe), I would like to claim November 1.

Will also be posting for Sixth Doctor and Seventh Doctor for sure (projects already completed), possibly Fourth and who knows what else.

Excellent. I was hoping someone would pick Torchwood. I will put you down for that on 1 November, but please do post the other projects to the comm as soon as they're finished - the more the merrier. :)

Do you/could you have a category for crafty things, specifically jewelry? I've made several charm bracelets, and necklaces that I'd love to share if that's appropriate (some are Eleven-specific and the rest are Doctor-non-specific). I could do any date; if you need some posts early in the month that's fine--all I have to do is photograph them.

That sounds excellent. I will put you in a new category of Doctor-non-specific, and I think I'll put you down for November 15, as we have nobody definitely assigned for the middle of the month yet. I hope this is okay, and I look forward to seeing your crafty works. :)
